Giyani - Three children nearly burnt to death after they were left inside a house while their mother went to a local bar in Hlanganani, outside Giyani, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

It is alleged that in the early hours of Wednesday morning at around 00:15, the mother left her three children - aged 4, 5 and 7 years - sleeping inside an RDP house and went to the local bar lounge "to enjoy herself", Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

"While she was busy there, she saw her house burning and she immediately rushed back home and called for assistance from the local community who responded," Ngoepe said.

The children were removed and rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Police were investigating cases of arson and attempted murder.
