Polokwane - A Christmas Day lovers quarrel ended in bloodshed when a 26-year-old woman was shot and killed by her boyfriend at gaMoloi village in the Nebo policing precinct in Limpopo.

The man then turned the gun on himself.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said it was alleged a quarrel ensued between the two before the woman fled to her neighbour's house.

“The 53-year-old boyfriend was in hot pursuit. She was caught, shot at and died instantly,” he said.

It is understood that the man then drove back home and shot himself.

“It is believed the boyfriend, who is from Ndzhelele in the Vhembe district, had a protection order issued against the woman. This happened after he was allegedly retrenched from work,” he added.
