Clucking chaos after chicken truck overturns on N2

2016-09-29 09:42

Cape Town - Looters descended on an overturned truck transporting frozen chicken on the N2 on-ramp at Hibberdine, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast, on Thursday morning.

Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie said paramedics responded at 5:40 and treated two of the truck's occupants for minor injuries.

"Chaos broke out as people allegedly started looting the frozen chicken. Police and protection services arrived quite quickly to get the crowd under control,” he said.

The group dispersed shortly after the arrival of the authorities, McKenzie said.

Traffic was not adversely affected as vehicles were able to drive past by using the shoulder of the road.
