Bloemfontein – Free State police are offering a R50 000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of Gert Human's killer.

Human, 51, was arrested and charged with the murder of his 52-year-old wife, Birgit Human, in their Welkom home on September 25. She appeared to have been strangled. Human had sustained several stab wounds, which police suspected were self-inflicted.

He appeared in the Virginia Magistrate's Court on September 29 and was released on R5 000 bail. He went to live with his daughter in Welkom.

On the morning of Friday October 9, Human left the house for Goldfields Casino in Welkom, Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said.

Video footage from the casino shows he parked his car, but never entered the building. His cellphone was switched off.

On Saturday October 10 around 09:00, cyclists found Human’s body behind the Phakisa motor racing track in Odendaalsrus. He had been shot in the head.

Anyone with information about the killing was asked to contact Captain Ben Strydom on 057-221-0129 or 082-461-1447.
