Wellington - Friends and supporters of Wellington murder accused Nigel Plaatjies on Thursday threatened a photographer after she apparently called the teen and his co-accused "murderers".

The comment was made as the two made their way from the dock of the Wellington Magistrate’s Court after their bail application was denied.

Nigel's mother Lien and other supporters who packed the gallery of the courtroom heard the comment and gathered outside the courtroom where one family friend launched into her.

"Hy het nie gepleit nie. Hoe kan jy so iets sê? [he has not pleaded. How can you say something like that]" she shouted as the rest of his supporters nodded and murmured in agreement.

The supporters waited for her outside the court building, arguing it was not her place to make such a judgement.

Others threatened to "moer" her (beat her up).

After an hour of waiting, the crowd dispersed after the photographer sought assistance from court officials.

Favourable

Locals had been diligently attending proceedings against Nigel, 18, and his co-accused, his uncle Johannes Plaatjies, 34.

They have had nothing but favourable things to say about the New Rest sports star, who is accused of murdering author Winnie Rust, 77, in her Uitsig home.

The writer financially supported the budding athlete since he was in Grade 7.

Lien was the domestic worker of Rust's daughter.

Rust was found strangled to death in her home on May 11 while her husband slept upstairs.

Police believe she was killed in a burglary gone wrong.
