Johannesburg - Crystal meth with a street value of R7.5m was intercepted by custom officials at OR International Airport on Friday night, the SA Revenue Service said.

The drugs were found during an inspection of a flight from Cotonou, Benin in West Africa, Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela said.

"All unaccompanied bags were escorted to the Sars customs search area for scanning where 25 plastic bags containing a white substance were found in one of the bags."

The substance tested positive for crystal methamphetamine - better known as tik in South Africa.

The bags weighed a total of 25.20kgs and had a street value of R7 560 000, he said.
