Cape Town – The DA’s call for early elections is the “worst form of opportunism”, ANC MP and fierce critic of President Jacob Zuma, Makhosi Khoza, said on Sunday evening.

“Its call for an early election confirms its desperation to return the white supremacist minority rule through the back door,” Khoza said.

In a Facebook post, Khoza said the DA should not mistake ANC MP’s stance against Zuma as being against the ruling party.

“We cannot vote the ANC out of power. We are voting corruption out of the affairs of RSA [Republic of South Africa].”

She said while DA leader Mmusi Maimane tried to transform the party, it remains a “comfortable home for the Nationalist Party (NP).”

“It is a nest of a new covert form of racism. This new form of racism parades blackness in the front office and keeps white racism in the back office.”

“That is where the engine and political architecture of the DA resides. The black front does what the white back office directs.”

“The DA is a preserve of minority interests. It only cares about profits and not people.”

Remnants of the apartheid-era NP merged with the Democratic Party (DP) in 2000 to form the DA.

The merger was however short-lived and in 2001, the New Nationalist Party (NNP) officially merged with the ANC.

'Extremely problematic'

In her Facebook post, Khoza said voters withheld their votes in 2016 instead of voting for the DA or EFF because “they were sending the strongest message to the ANC”.

She suggested that the ANC itself should propose a vote of no confidence in Zuma.

“That will give the ANC time to clean up its mess and regain lost public confidence.”

Khoza said if the party is unable “to root out corruption in our glorious movement,” it may be voted out in the 2019 general elections and replaced with a coalition government.

“[Coalition government] is extremely problematic as more time is spent reconciling irreconcilable ideologies, policy approaches and perspectives.”

“It is more about personalities than leadership. It derails service delivery. It is one of the worst forms of democracy as instability defines its character.”

The EFF on Friday announced it would be boycotting DA-led coalition governments in Pretoria and Johannesburg “from time to time” after the DA voted in favour UDM Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor Mongameli Bobani’s removal.

Khoza was removed as the chairperson by the public administration portfolio committee in August after ANC portfolio committee members said she contravened the ANC’s disciplinary code.

She is being charged by the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal - who nominated her as an MP - for bringing the party into disrepute after publicly calling on Zuma to step down.

Khoza previously said she would not stop speaking out against corruption in the ANC despite repeated threats against her and her children.
