Cape Town - If principal Na-aim Kassiem had one wish, it would be to have a science lab at his school, Oval North High in Mitchell's Plain.

Next year, the technical high school will be implementing a new curriculum where advanced mathematics and advanced physics will be compulsory.

But unlike the better equipped schools, his pupils have to imagine the sights and sounds of the experiments that demonstrate difficult concepts.

Kassiem was extremely grateful when an Eskom representative got lost and stopped at his school. Because after spending time with the dynamic principal she convinced the company to pay the salary of one more teacher at the school.

The school has been chosen as a Focus School of Excellence for engineering and technical subjects, and science is compulsory.

Next year it will also be compulsory to do advanced mathematics and science and this is where the science laboratory will help.

Very proud of the almost 100% matric pass rate the class of 2015 achieved, his wish now is that the next wave of pupils gearing up for matric, will go into their exams fortified by their lab work.
