Cape Town - Police divers will on Monday resume their search for a man who went missing while swimming in the Kleinmond Lagoon on Sunday evening.

The 25-year-old from Grabouw was last seen at 18:00.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut on Monday confirmed the man is yet to be found.

According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), its duty crew responded to a request for assistance at 19:20 after the man was reported missing.

NSRI rescue swimmers, along with police, fire and rescue personnel and provincial government emergency medical services, conducted a search.

"The shoreline and water search operation included NSRI rescue swimmers and fire and rescue divers conducting free dive searches and a sweeping line search in the water in the vicinity of where the man went missing. But despite an extensive search no sign of the missing man has been found," spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.

Police are investigating.
