Johannesburg - Another dog owner from the East Rand has told News24 that she had also received the wrong dog after taking it to Lucky Dogs Parlour last year.

Wendy Twibell said her Jack Russell had been collected by staff from the parlour for its monthly grooming, but that the wrong dog was brought back to their home in November.

"They had dropped the dog off and I was at the dentist and my domestic lady phoned me and said 'Look this is not our dog'," Twibell said.

"I said 'What do you mean?' She said 'they look the same, but this is not our dog'."

Twibell said her 5-year-old daughter had noticed that the dog they had did not have a sore inside its mouth, which she had grown accustomed to.

"I phoned them and they said they'd phone me back and basically [it turned out] they had mixed all the dogs up and delivered all the dogs to the wrong houses."

Twibell said the right dog was brought home that evening.

"She [the parlour owner] said they would trace all the houses in the area that they had delivered to, and then they would collect them and sort it out."

When her dog was returned to her, Twibell said she received no apology for the mistake.

"The driver just dropped the dog off and then left. That was the end of it."

Lana Anteglievic, who runs the parlour with her mother Anka, said she did not recall such an incident.

"No, not that I recall. Not that there was a [situation where] she'd taken it home or anything like that, no. Definitely not."

Twibell said she was prompted to speak out after seeing a News24 article about Cherene de Wet who had been searching for her Maltese Yorkshire Terrier for five days, after the two dogs were mistakenly swopped.

De Wet and her dog Lulu were reunited on Wednesday, after another dog owner who was also a client at Lucky Dogs, read a News24 article about the missing dog.

Anteglievic, who fetched and returned both dogs to their rightful owners said the two dogs were almost identical after having their fur shaved.

She said even the owners had trouble recognising them as both had been collected from the parlour by their respective owners after having been groomed.

Upon realising the mistake, she had left no stone unturned and had spent sleepless nights until the dogs were reunited with their families, Anteglievic said.
