Howick - A man was rescued after his truck rolled and burst into flames off the N3 near Lions River, in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday evening, paramedics said.

Paramedics found the heavy truck lying on its side next to the road, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

The cooking oil the truck had been carrying was spread across the scene and was on fire.

It took rescue services two hours to free the man while firefighters battled the blaze.

The driver was taken to Edendale Hospital.
