Durban - A collision between two vehicles in Durban left an elderly woman dead and 11 others, including children, injured,  paramedics said on Sunday.

The accident took place at the corner of Stanger Street and Argyle Road just after 23:30 on Saturday, Rescue Care spokesperson Ceron Lennox said.

Paramedics arrived to find an elderly woman had succumbed to major injuries. Eight adults and three children had been hurt.

Two children and one adult had critical injuries. The children were given advanced life support treatment on the scene, while a man in his twenties was placed on a manual ventilator.

The group was treated on the scene then taken to various hospitals for urgent care, Lennox said.
