Durban – A KwaZulu-Natal private security company on Sunday issued a warning to motorists to be vigilant after a Durban North man was abducted in a foiled hijacking on Saturday night.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the suspects hijacked the man on Fairway Road at around 22:44 and then crashed his vehicle on the M4.

In a Facebook message on Sunday morning Jackson said: “Four armed men hijacked him [the motorist] of his vehicle and pushed him into the back seat. They drove onto the M4 towards the CBD but they lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier.”

The men then fled the scene, leaving the uninjured motorist in the vehicle.

Jackson urged motorists to be vigilant when driving home from work, especially at night.

“Driveways are prime spots for hijackings. It’s important to always check your surroundings for any suspicious individuals or vehicles that could be lurking nearby.

“If you notice anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, rather drive around the block before pulling into the driveway.”

Jackson said people should call the police to investigate if they feel unsafe.
