Durban - The eThekwini Municipality will hold a community meeting this week with the residents of ward 23 who blocked the M19 for five hours on Monday.

Head of Communication Tozi Mthethwa said on Monday over 300 residents caused traffic disruptions when they blocked the road with tyres, planks and other items.

She said municipal authorities were deployed to the scene to diffuse the situation and address the community’s concerns.

“A preliminary meeting will be held with community leaders, the ward councillor and relevant city departments to get to the crux of the matter. A mass community meeting will be held to interact with all residents [later] this week.

“Residents want electricity to be installed in their informal settlement. Displaced residents during the attacks on foreign nationals have also been unable to return to their homes alleging that their informal dwellings have been sold.”

Mthethwa said the municipality was investigation the claims made by the disgruntled residents.
