Port Elizabeth - A man accused of raping a friend of his girlfriend in Willowvale on Tuesday is behind bars waiting to appear in court, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the 25-year-old man, his girlfriend, and her friend, were socialising at a bar in Nqadu Village near the Eastern Cape Town, at around 18:00 on Tuesday.

After his girlfriend left for home, he allegedly dragged her friend to his home and raped her.

She reported the attack to the police on Wednesday and he was arrested and taken into custody on the same day.

He will appear in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Friday.
