EFF, ANC MPs clash outside National Assembly chamber

2016-04-05 17:59

Cape Town - EFF and ANC supporters crowded the corridors of Parliament after a clash between EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

This was while MPs on Tuesday debated a motion to remove President Jacob Zuma after last week's Constitutional Court ruling.

Ndlozi accused the minister of sleeping during the proceedings. He told Nkoana-Mashabane that she was paid to stay awake and listen.

When the minister was not allowed to respond to Ndlozi in the House, she, along with Small Business Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu stepped outside the chamber along with Ndlozi.

Journalists were blocked from going to see what was happening, but supporters of both parties filed out of the sitting and crowded the corridor.

"We are not scared of you. Don't make the mistake of thinking we are," ANC MPs told their EFF counterparts.

An EFF supporter then told the ANC: "Let’s meet outside later."

Both Zulu and Nkoana-Mashabane came back into the House within a few minutes, and supporters were directed back to their chairs by marshals.
