Johannesburg - Three Krugersdorp policemen, allegedly caught on camera killing Khulekani Mpanza, are expected to hear on Friday whether they have been granted bail.

The trio appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for a bail application.

Magistrate Keith Page said he would rule on the bail on Friday.

During Tuesday's proceedings, Page heard conflicting evidence over the suspension of Constable Titus Mabele, Constable Jason Segole and Sargeant Puleng Sebetwa.

Defence lawyer Thando Mankge told the court that if granted bail, the three officers would report for duty. But prosecutor Sharon Masedi said the State understood the policemen had been served with suspension letters.

The three officers could only afford R3 000 bail the court heard, because they earned less than R10 000 and had families to support.

The Sunday Times newspaper two weeks ago reported that CCTV footage showed the police officers killing Mpanza in cold blood, after he fired shots at a police van.

Mankge told the court the defence would punch holes in the State's case and question the validity of the footage.
