No one sustained serious injuries.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics helped to block off flooded roads that posed a risk to motorists. They also helped to move trees that had fallen across roads.

A tree fell on to the N1 towards Paarl and another fell on to an emergency service’s vehicle in Rhodes Drive in Constantia.

The worst-hit areas included the N2 in Macassar, Du Toits Kloof pass, several roads in the Strand, Rhodes Drive in Constantia, the N1 between the weighbridge and the tunnel and Prince George Road in Steenberg.

ER24 urged commuters to take extra care when driving on flooded roads. It advised motorists to:

Slow down and make sure you have your headlights switched on;

Be careful of potholes that might have filled with water which would make them difficult to spot;

Do not attempt to cross flooded low-water bridges or areas that are severely flooded;

Ensure your car’s windscreen wipers are in good working condition and ensure all your lights are working. Other vehicles will find it difficult to see you in misty conditions; and
Obey the rules of the road and be patient.
