Fireman killed by speeding car laid to rest

Taung - The City of Johannesburg emergency management services on Saturday paid their last respects to colleague, fireman Tebogo Thobodi, who was killed last week in Johannesburg.

Thobodi was laid to rest in his home town Taung, in the North West Province.

He died last Sunday when a speeding motorists ‎drove through an accident scene while Thobodi was attending to a patient. 

Thobodi contributed immensely to the safety of the citizens of Johannesburg, said Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

"He dedicated 12 years of selfless service to the protection of lives and properties of the citizens of the city with dedication, passion and professionalism. He served his generation with outmost diligence and will be sorely missed by not only his family but colleagues and the citizens of the city of Johannesburg who he served until his untimely death," said Mulaudzi. 

Hundreds of firefighters, emergency services personnel and JMPD officials gathered earlier in the week for a wreath-laying ceremony at the site of the accident, which was followed by a memorial services at the Midrand Fire Station. 

Executive Head of the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Tshepo Makola acknowledged Thobodi's contribution towards the safety of the citizens of the city, and encouraged the fellow EMS personnel to continue were he left off.
