Port Elizabeth - Fires have flared up again in the St Francis Bay area, the Kouga Municipality said on Wednesday afternoon.

- Are you affected by the fires? Send us your eyewitness accounts and photos.

This after it was reported earlier that firefighters had managed to extinguish the fires that had been raging since Saturday.

According to Kouga Municipal spokesperson Laura-Leigh Randall, the fires have flared up again, but this time in the Sea Vista-St Francis industrial area.

The fire jumped the road to the Sea Vista side, an informal settlement on the border of the nature reserve, where it is believed the fire originated on Saturday. However, firefighters managed to extinguish it.

The fire is still burning on the R330 and the road is closed, and traffic is being diverted via the airfield to Cape St Francis.

A helicopter has been taking water from the swimming pools of houses to help bring the fire under control, with the Sarah Baartman District Municipality also announcing that they will send firefighters from other local municipalities to assist.

Although no official evacuation was announced, people took to Twitter to say that some nervous residents had in fact moved to other areas to be clear of the fire.
