Johannesburg - The fire at Fish Hoek in the Western Cape was brought under control on Thursday night.

Several roads which had earlier been closed off to traffic had since been re-opened, said Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson Richard Coleman.

"From about 16:45, the roads were re-opened. It was a difficult fire that they were fighting and at around 20:07, the fire was... under control. There is no longer any property in danger," Coleman said.

Firefighters remained on the scene and were still attending to a number of hotspots.

Earlier, City Fire and Rescue spokesperson Liezl Moodie said firefighters had been called to the area shortly before 10:00 on Thursday, where they found a train carriage on fire at the Fish Hoek railway station.

A body was found in one of three train carriages which had gone up in flames.

The gender of the victim was unknown.

Vegetation close to the railway station was also ablaze and the fire had spread towards the slopes.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the blaze.
