Flabba's killer to be sentenced on anniversary of his death

2015-12-10 12:07

Johannesburg - Sindisiwe Manqele will be sentenced on March 9 and 10 next year for fatally stabbing her boyfriend, hip hop artist Nkululeko "Flabba" Habedi.

The date was set in the high court sitting in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Ironically, March 9 would mark a year since she fatally stabbed Habedi in the heart, instantly killing him.

Manqele and Habedi had allegedly been involved in a heated argument on the day of the murder, after they had returned from a Sandton nightclub.

The couple had argued about Habedi's ex-girlfriend who had allegedly danced seductively in front of him while at the club. Habedi also exchanged words with Manqele after she entertained another man who had paid her compliments at the club.

While Manqele had pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, arguing she acted in self-defence, Judge Solly Sithole on Wednesday rejected her private defence plea.

He said she acted intentionally in stabbing Habedi and had, during cross-examination, admitted to this.

Manqele was now seeking bail before the court after her initial bail application was revoked following Wednesday's conviction.

The matter continues.
