Johannesburg - A Johannesburg teenager, who was found 4 days after she was kidnapped, said on Monday that God kept her alive.

“I am thankful for God for keeping me alive and safe during that difficult time. Although I did not get food and water for four days, His grace was still enough for me," Lizel Molefe, 16, said.

Her mother, Lynley Molefe, said she was happy her daughter was safe and unharmed. She said her daughter could not remember much, because they used smoke to put her to sleep.

Lizel said men, whose identities she did not know, told her she needed to be moved after her missing flyers reports went viral.

“They wanted to move her to a different place, but she saw an opportunity and threw herself out of the car. She saved herself,” Lynley said.

She said Lizel stopped an unknown car for help on Friday night and immediately called home.

Lizel said she was excited to be going back to school and to start playing netball again.

Molefe, a pupil at Queens High School in Kensington, was kidnapped in Lombardy East on Tuesday, February 9.

Lizel said she was waiting at the gate outside her home when an unknown man walking on the side of the road alongside a slow-moving car grabbed her, put his hand over her mouth, and forced her into the vehicle.

Dessie Rechner, the director of the Pink Ladies, an organisation that helps find missing people, appealed to parents to be more vigilant. She said parents should know who their children's friends are and have their contact details.

Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
