Mbombela - Four people were killed and six injured when a minibus taxi and two light delivery vans collided on the N4 via Schoemanskloof in Mpumalanga.

Spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison Joseph Mabuza said the accident happened at about 21:30 on Tuesday near Viva Filling Station.

"It is believed that the minibus, that was pulling a trailer at the time, may have lost control before colliding with the two other vehicles," said Mabuza.

He said the minibus was travelling from Machadodorp towards Mbombela, while the other two vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction.

The four deceased included the driver and a passenger in the Isuzu LDV, and two passengers in the Daihatsu LDV.

"Five people from the minibus, and the driver of the Isuzu, survived with serious injuries. The minibus driver escaped with slight injuries," said Mabuza.

He said all the injured were transported to Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela.

MEC Vusi Shongwe has sent condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Shongwe expressed concern at the increasing number of crashes in the province saying there was a need to intensify road safety education and law enforcement.
