Durban - Four people were killed in execution style murders at Durban’s KwaMashu Hostel on Sunday.

The four were gunned down inside Block 192 Xolani Road inside the Men’s Hostel complex.

It is understood that a group of approximately six people entered the Block, forced the victims to lie on the ground and executed them.

Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu strongly condemned this murder, dubbing it “cold-blooded” and “totally abhorrent”.

“We are very disappointed at this terrible development which occurs at the time when we were seeing strong signs that this areas was stabilizing after the government had invested a lot of time and resources to bring about a lasting peace at the hostel,” he said.

“Police have been directed to work flat out to bring the culprits to book. In this regard, we urge anyone who has any information that might lead to the arrest of those responsible to immediately share it with the police.

“Equally, we call on the residents at the hostel to observe restrain and work with the police and the government to ensure that the killers are sent to jail immediately,” said Mchunu, adding that the timing of this murder was unfortunate as it coincided with the voter registration week,” he added.
