Cape Town – The men and women in charge of ANC provincial leader Marius Fransman’s spiritual well being have called for patience while the police investigate sexual harassment charges against him.

In a statement issued by Bishop Templeton Mbekwa, the Chaplaincy of the Western Cape ANC has called on Fransman’s fellow comrades not to jump to conclusions.

Fransman is facing sexual harassment allegations after a 20-year-old woman accused him of touching her inappropriately while accompanying him, as his personal assistant, to the party’s birthday celebrations in Rustenburg earlier this month.

The Chaplaincy, responsible for providing pastoral care to members of the ruling party in the province and taking care of its spiritual well being, said comrades should not make pre-emptive judgements against its Western Cape leader.

"The Chaplaincy executive applied its spiritual discernment of the claim. The Chaplaincy established there is no charge yet and that there are still suspicions concerning the claim. The Chaplaincy therefore waits for the investigative process to take its course," they said in a statement.

The spiritual guides said they believed all people were innocent until proven guilty.

"The Chaplaincy appeals to all good citizens to be patient; allow room for the conclusion of the matter and respect the sensitivity of this case," they said.
