Bloemfontein – A 49-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly raped another man at Vukazenzele in Manyatseng, Free State police said on Tuesday.

Pule Edwin Chao appeared in the Ladybrand Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning on a charge of rape, said Sergeant Martin Xuma.

Xuma said the man was allegedly raped on Sunday evening.

"The victim paid the suspect a visit and was told to sleep over as it [was] already late and dangerous to walk at night... Later that night, the suspect overpowered the victim and raped him."

Chao was expected to appear again in court on June 30 for a formal bail application, said Xuma.
