Johannesburg – A number of suspects that were identified in an investigation into bomb threats at Gauteng shopping centres have urgently approached the court over a search warrant, police said on Tuesday.

Officers confiscated exhibits including computers following a number of threats targeting shopping centres since August 2016, said spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters.

The suspects filed an urgent application to order police not to download information from the computers and to declare the search warrant invalid.

"Given our constitutional mandate to ensure that citizens of the country are and feel safe and secure, police will oppose this urgent application because it is in the best interest of the public," said Peters.

The matter will come before the High Court in Johannesburg later on Tuesday.
