George - A limited service is available to Go George bus service users as an illegal strike by bus drivers continues, the Garden Route town's municipality said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose confirmed the service remains compromised and that the vehicle operating company, George Link, was in the process of sourcing temporary drivers.

Drivers belonging to the South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union went on strike on Thursday, reportedly in a bus route-related dispute.

Edwards-Klose said by Friday morning that 16 buses were operating, while another group was to be appointed later that day.

"The challenge is to find qualified, licensed drivers who know the routes and have the necessary product certification," she said.

Only the busiest routes are currently in service and normal bus schedules do not apply, Edwards-Klose confirmed.
