Alexandra – A taxi owner was killed and a taxi driver wounded after two gunmen opened fire on them on Friday in Riverpark next to Alexandra.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said the incident occurred about 08:00 when two unknown men in a white Hyundai Getz opened fire on the victims.

One of the victims was taken to hospital with injuries, while the other was declared dead.

"The taxi owners allegedly came to pick up the vice chairperson of Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand and Sandton Taxi Association, when the suspects attacked them and shot at them several times," Makhubela said in a statement.

No one had been arrested so far, but a case of murder and attempted murder had been opened.

The police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects to contact them or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
