Johannesburg - Two people who had allegedly swallowed a consignment of drugs were arrested in separate incidents at OR Tambo International Airport airport this week, the Hawks said.

Spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said a man travelling on a passport issued in Nigeria was arrested at the airport on Tuesday.

Paul Okechukwu Okwo, 46, was arrested after landing on a flight from Brazil.

He was en-route to Lagos, Nigeria, when scanners detected it, said Mulaudzi.

He has appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court to face drug dealing charges and would return to court on June 15.

On Thursday a 24-year-old woman travelling on an Angolan-issued passport was flagged after a scanner check.

Hangwani said she had swallowed almost a kilogram of cocaine worth around R271 000.

She was in transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, from Sao Paolo, Brazil.

She would appear in the same court once she had released all the drugs.

This was after SA Revenue Services officials found 3kg of Crystal Methamphetamine in unaccompanied luggage at the same airport on Thursday, as well as 19kg of compressed dagga hidden inside a trophy stand destined for the United Kingdom.
