Durban – Heavy rains across KwaZulu-Natal have caused several injuries and destruction of property, emergency services said on Monday.

Four children have been injured, one seriously, after a mud house collapsed during a storm in Oosboom near Ladysmith.

According to EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie, the children were aged 3 and 4 years old.

In a separate incident, there were also reports of houses flooded near Tugela Ferry in the Umzinyathi District.

"Our teams are currently struggling to get to the scene because of the heavy rains," McKenzie said.

"We are on high alert for the rest of the night. If there are any emergencies, we request people to call us straight away."

He urged motorists to drive slowly and to keep a safe following distance.
