Durban – Durban police were responding to a hostage situation in Umlazi T-Section on Friday, where it was believed that a councillor had been locked in his home.

Major Thulani Zwane said locals became "irate with someone who came to address them".

"They have locked the person in the confines of their property. The individual whose home it is, is still able to walk freely in their yard and home. However, irate residents will not let them leave the confines."

This is a developing story.
