Johannesburg - A Katlehong man has appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on charges of murdering his wife, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

Lerathona Maduna, 32, was arrested for allegedly stabbing and strangling his wife to death at their home in Katlehong, on the East Rand, on Sunday morning after seeing her standing on the street with another man, spokesperson Captain Mega Ndobe said.

The matter was postponed to January 7 for a formal bail application.

Maduna had allegedly killed his 29-year-old wife after accusing her of having an affair with the man.

After seeing his wife and the man standing together, Maduna allegedly let the man walk away, and forced his wife into their shack where he stabbed and strangled her.

He apparently left the body there and went to stay with his brother in Alexandra.

He returned to the decomposing body on Monday night and reported the matter to police.
