Johannesburg – The Road Traffic Management Corporation will investigate the crash that killed 14 people on the R41 in Randfontein on Friday, the Department of Transport said.

A spokesperson for the department said Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters had confirmed that 14 people died and two were critically injured after a taxi and truck crashed.

Peters immediately enlisted the help of the RTMC to start investigating the cause of "this gruesome carnage". She also went to the site of the crash.

The Road Accident Fund will help the families of the deceased and will also support those in hospital.

The spokesperson said the department was tracking the next of kin of the 14 who died to inform them of the deaths.

“Minister Peters thanks the Road Traffic Management Corporation and emergency services for their swift response in assisting the injured.”
