Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal man is safe after being kidnapped from his house at Madadeni, Newcastle this week, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the 18-year-old was held captive pending the payment of a ransom demanded from his father.

The kidnapping was reported to Newcastle police station, and an investigation initiated.

Two of the alleged kidnappers were tracked down and arrested while holding the man hostage.

Another two suspects were arrested while they were waiting near an ATM for the ransom money to come through.

"The victim was handed over to his parents and was taken to hospital for medical attention," said Gwala.

The four will appear in the Newcastle Magistrate's Court soon.
