KZN pupil stabbed during fight at school

Durban – A 20 year-old pupil from Siphesihle High School in Inchanga was stabbed on the school premises during a fight with a fellow pupil, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

Major Thulani Zwane said a case of assault was being investigated after the pupil was stabbed and taken to the hospital for treatment.

No arrest has been made.

KZN education department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi confirmed the incident, saying there had been a long-standing feud between the pupils.

He said the department was investigating what happened.

Ward councillor Boy Shozi was not surprised when he heard about the incident.

“It is not the first time that pupils harm each other at that school. The matter is now bigger than the school and the parents and the community need to meet to discuss the tensions in the community.”

In 2010, The Witness reported that Nkosinathi Mtolo, 19, who was in grade 10, was shot dead at the school as pupils were leaving for break. It was believed at the time that the shooter was another pupil.

It was not immediately clear what the outcome of that case was.
