Durban – The KwaZulu-Natal government is ready for the influx of thousands of festive season holidaymakers, its Tourism MEC Sihle Zikalala said on Wednesday.

The province was expecting tourists from all across Africa.

"We are expecting over 162 000 international arrivals and almost 1.2 million domestic trips over this period."

Some major hotels already had occupancy rates of around 75%. He was confident that airport traffic would increase by around 9% compared to the same time last year, giving the province’s economy a boost estimated at R2.3bn.

He advised holidaymakers to visit the Tourism KwaZulu-Natal website, www.zulu.org.za to find quality-assured accommodation, travellers’ tips, an events calendar, and a guide to activities around the province.
