Johannesburg – Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha announced changes to his cabinet on Wednesday.

Onnica Moloi, the former ANC Youth League spokesperson in the region, was sworn in as sports, arts and culture MEC.

"Onnica represents the new blood. There have been many calls from the youth for us to include younger people in our executive. She is that step," mayoral spokesperson Kenny Mathivha said.

The changes were sparked by the death of the province's Agriculture MEC Joy Matshoge earlier this year.

Matshoge, who was also an ANC Women's League member, was killed in a car crash on the N1 south near Mokopane in June.

Transport, Safety and Security MEC Mapula Mokaba Phukwana would replace her.

Sports, Arts and Culture MEC Nandi Ndalane was moved to a reconfigured transport and community safety department .

Mathabatha hoped the changes would lead to a more efficient provincial government.
