Guptas not breaking the law - Supra Mahumapelo

2016-12-09 16:16

As long as they abide by the laws of the republic and help to create jobs, we will work with them, says North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo when asked about the notorious Gupta family.WATCH

Johannesburg - The North West Business Forum has dared the province's Premier Supra Mahumapelo to go ahead and sue it.

Mahumapelo has written to the forum demanding a written apology for the "highly inflammatory, defamatory and baseless" lyrics of a song that was endorsed by the forum or it will face a legal suit.

The song, which accuses Mahumapelo of overseeing corruption in the province, also calls for him to step down by February 14 and threatens that if he doesn't, he will be ejected from office.

In a previous report by News24 the forum admitted to backing two anti-Mahumapelo songs and reiterated accusations that the premier was involved in corruption scandals.

Mahumapelo is also demanding that the forum apologises for a statement it released in which it insinuated that he was involved in the murder of businessman Wandile Bozwana who was gunned down in Pretoria in 2015.

Bozwana was killed in a dramatic daylight shooting in which at least nine bullets were pumped into a car in which he was a passenger.

In the letter Mahumapelo's representatives accuse the forum of using bullying tactics and threats to ruin his reputation.

'The premier must go jump in the nearest lake'

"Since the campaign is ongoing, our client is continuing to suffer extreme prejudice and damage to his reputation and excellent standing as a respected leader in SA," the letter said.

Mahumapelo has threatened to sue the forum if it fails to submit the unconditional letter of apology by Thursday.

But forum member Sello Mogodiri said they are undeterred and dared Mahumapelo to take them to court.

"[The] premier must go jump in the nearest lake."

"What we are saying as NW Business Forum is we are waiting for his resignation letter, if he doesn't bring it, we will meet it on the 14th," Mogodiri said.

The forum is planning a mass protest outside Mahumapelo's office on February 14.

"We will only leave when he is no longer the premier... [the] ANC has a rare opportunity to choose the people over him," Mogodiri said.

They have challenged him to go to a lifestyle audit.
