Cape Town - DA leader Mmusi Maimane is due to hold a public tour of the city of Tshwane on Monday, as part of ongoing public engagements with communities that voted for the party in the local elections.

Maimane has embarked on a countrywide #BackToThePeople tour to address voters in the 16 municipalities the party won following the elections in August.

The purpose is to thank them for their support, stress the party's stance on delivering better services, cutting corruption and creating jobs, a party statement said on Saturday.

He will be accompanied by Tshwane mayor and provincial chairperson Solly Msimanga on Monday.

Maimane will also lay out the party's plans for the 2019 general elections.

The DA won the most wards in Tshwane in August, securing 93 seats to the ANC's 89.

An alignment with the EFF, IFP and other opposition parties saw DA mayor Solly Msimanga voted in as mayor with a 50%+1 majority in the metro's first new council meeting on August 19.

He replaced outgoing ANC Tshwane mayor Kgosientso ''Sputla'' Ramokgopa, following a number of ANC factional protests that turned violent during a messy succession battle.
