EFF calls itself South Africa's last hope

2016-02-17 12:03

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi calls his part the "last hope" for South Africa, echoing the words of leader Julius Malema. Citing economic history and macro-economic theory, Ndlozi argues the DA and ANC are scarcely different from one another. His party, he says, will introduce a new model of industrialisation, job creation, land reform and economic growth.WATCH

Cape Town - Even a 6-year-old could tell EFF leader Julius Malema was a "juvenile delinquent", Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson said during the State of the Nation address debate on Wednesday.

She said she often brought school pupils to visit Parliament and they always wanted to know where Malema sat and wanted to take photos with the outspoken leader.

The minister said she thought pupils liked Malema because of his overall.

"This one 6-year-old learner told me that this is a hooligan who manages to be called honourable," Joemat-Pettersson said, referring to the EFF leader.

She said she was disappointed that Malema was not in the House to hear her story.

"This is a 6-year-old learner. Please honourable members, these are not my words. He says if you behave like that you go to the school principal and he beats you well, and if you dare tell your parents, you know that school principal will beat your parents too," she said to loud laughter from MPs.

"Then if you behave like that at home in front of your mother, she'll beat you. Now this 6-year-old tells me 'this one we would call a juvenile delinquent'."

Joemat-Pettersson said this "naught boy" attracted others.

She criticised the "copycats" who were taken in by a juvenile delinquent and likened them to a drunk uncle at a family function.

"In the Northern Cape you know what we called a juvenile delinquent? Someone who moves from ignorance to decadence without passing through civilization. You have missed out a phase in your life," she said.
