Cape Town - A man has been arrested eight months after allegedly shooting and killing five people in Nyanga, Western Cape police said.

The 25-year-old, from Gugulethu, was arrested at a shebeen on Tuesday, said Captain Frederick van Wyk.

"The five victims were shot at while sitting in a vehicle in Mau-Mau, Nyanga. A woman who got out of the vehicle to escape the shooting was shot in her back and was fatally wounded."

He said the others died later in hospital after the incident in March.

He also thanked residents for their assistance and support.
