Cape Town - A man accused of raping a 12-year-old boy was among 186 people Cape Town’s law enforcement agencies arrested over the past week.

The child flagged down officers on patrol in Parow last Wednesday and told them he had been sexually assaulted at a nearby canal.

They made their way to the scene and he pointed out the 47-year-old suspect. The man was arrested.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said in a statement on Monday that the man was one of two rape suspects arrested that day.

“I want to commend the young boy for seeking help and speaking out. It was an extremely brave thing to do,” he said.

That same day, an off-duty officer responded to a colleague’s call for help in Eerste River.

A man allegedly stabbed and hit his ex-girlfriend in the face with a brick and damaged the windows and gate of a property in the area.
The two officers disarmed him after they pepper-sprayed him.

He was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, riotous behaviour, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, and malicious damage to property.

It was later established that he was out on parole after being jailed for murder, the city said.
