Cape Town - A 40-year-old man will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday in connection with the murder of a Saldanha woman whose body was discovered in the fridge of her home last week.

The corpse of Bernadette Orphan was reportedly found by her son last Thursday afternoon in their home at the Saldanha Naval Base.

The family’s home had been robbed and the woman’s car had been stolen.

A post mortem is yet to determine the cause of death.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said investigations had led to the recovery of the woman’s car in Robertson on Tuesday.

Residents had assisted police in their investigation and linked a suspect to the vehicle.

"On Wednesday, the investigation team embarked on an early morning search for the suspect in Vredenburg. At about 04:51 a [man] was arrested in connection with the murder," he said.

He was found in possession of some of the stolen items reported missing from Orphan’s home, Van Wyk confirmed.

The suspect faces charges of murder, robbery and car theft.
