Johannesburg - A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a woman in Kagiso, police said on Monday.

The woman was walking past the Tshepisong sports ground with her friends when they were confronted by four men carrying knives and pangas, Captain Solomon Sibiya said.

Sibiya said two of the four men chased the woman down and raped her. The suspects also took her cellphone.

The incident happened in January.

"The victim only managed to point out and identify one of the four men on Sunday," Sibiya said.

He would appear in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The other three men were still at large.

Kagiso police are appealing to members of the community to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the other men.
