Man drowns at Amanzimtoti beach

Durban - A man believed to be in his thirties has drowned at a rock pool at Amanzimtoti beach in Durban on Sunday afternoon, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said shortly after 18:00 on Sunday paramedics arrived on the scene where they found life guards performing CPR on the man.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to revive him.

He was later declared dead.

According to bystanders on the scene, the man was sitting on rocks when he was swept over by waves, Vermaak said.

Life guards managed to retrieve him from the water and initiated CPR.
