KwaZulu-Natal – A man who was fleeing an angry crowd was killed after he landed in front of a moving car on Sunday evening near Umlazi in Durban.

Netcare 911 said paramedics received a call at 20:20 of a pedestrian crash at the Doonside off ramp.

In a statement Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said: “Reports from the scene indicate that the bakkie with six people was travelling to Umlazi when a man running away from people chasing him landed in front of the vehicle.”

Paramedics found the body of a man lying at the side of the highway about 100m from the bakkie. The man died on the scene.

Botha said the pedestrian had slid across the bonnet of the bakkie before he smashed through the windshield and slammed into a female sitting in the passenger seat. He said paramedics treated the female at the scene and after immobilising her on a trauma board, they transported her to a hospital in Amanzimtoti.
