Johannesburg - A Daveyton man wanted for stabbing his girlfriend to death in front of their 6-year-old son has handed himself over to authorities, Johannesburg police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said on Sunday.

The man had been on the run since the incident on January 15.

Unexpectedly, he arrived at the Yeoville police station at 02:00 on Sunday and handed himself in.

He will appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder.

Makhubele said that in a separate incident, a Dobsonville man was arrested in connection with the rape of his 8-year-old daughter on Saturday.

The girl lived with her father and when her mother arrived from Kliptown, Soweto, to visit her child, the little girl said her father did not want her to go out and play with other children.

On further inspection, the woman saw signs of abuse and rape and reported it to police. The man was arrested.
