Johannesburg – A 31-year-old man was re-arrested after he skipped a court appearance for the murder of his girlfriend.

Siyathemba Nkululeko Ngcekwa handed himself over to police on Monday afternoon.

Captain Xoli Mbele said he had been out on bail and was scheduled to appear in court again on August 13. However, he didn't turn up.

Mbele said the man allegedly killed his girlfriend in her flat in January 2014.

She said the woman had had a protection order against him.

She was strangled and had bruises on her face.

The man was on the run after the murder, but previously handed himself over to police in January 2014.
